The Knox County Food Cupboard, which distributes food to people living in Knox County on a monthly basis, has postponed this month’s distribution.

According to a representative of the Food Cupboard, organizers are waiting to learn when the Food Bank of Central Missouri can deliver the monthly food supply.

Once the delivery date is known, a distribution date will be announced.

“Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the April 3 distribution date for the Knox County Food Cupboard has been postponed. Watch the Sentinel for more information as it becomes available,” said Gary Clair, KCFC Director, in a note left at The Edina Sentinel.

On Monday afternoon, March 23, ten Food Cupboard Board members and volunteers met to discuss the next distribution and ways to safely distribute food to Knox County residents.

During the meeting, the group discussed the possibility of having a drive-through distribution and having a younger group of volunteers help with the distribution, as most of the volunteers who help unload the truck and distribute the food are older Knox County citizens and at the highest risk of having serious complications if they contract COVID-19.

Plans are being made to protect the safety of everyone involved.

Over the course of a year, the Food Cupboard distributes tens of thousands of pounds of food to hundreds of Knox County residents. There is no charge to receive food from the Food Cupboard nor are there income requirements to participate. The only requirement to receive the monthly commodity distribution is to reside within Knox County.

Once the new distribution date is given, those who want to pick-up food will have to show ID or present documentation with a Knox County address.

More information will be published in The Edina Sentinel and on edinasentinel.com when it becomes available.
