Get Healthy in 2013: ‘Get Up & Move!’

Adams County, IL – Parents and their children in the tri-state area are invited to participate in “Get Up & Move!,” an interactive health seminar for families, on Saturday, January 19 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Baldwin School gymnasium in Quincy; no reservations are required.  The first 250 families will receive a door prize, and thanks to Shottenkirk and the Salvation Army Kroc Center, there will also be two drawings for bicycles - one for a boy and one for a girl.

“United Way is committed to helping improve the overall health and well-being of all people,” said Carrie Kimber, co-coordinator of the event.  “This event will be filled with information, practical tips and fun activities to keep families active and healthy in the New Year and beyond.”

The event begins with Joe Company, a researcher and Ph.D. candidate in Exercise Physiology, who will set the tone of the day with a national perspective on childhood obesity.  Parents/caregivers and children will then participate in age-appropriate breakout sessions.  Parents will learn about family nutrition, the emotional impact of obesity, and families getting active together, while children participate in hands-on activities: Kids Zumba, karate, jump rope, and making your own healthy snack.

“When you attend ‘Get Up & Move,’ you will be one step closer to a healthier you,” stated Kimber.

The event is organized by the United Way Nutrition & Weight Status / Physical Activity Community Solutions Team.
