VERNA M. BALTZER



Verna Marie Baltzer, age 82, of 4012 Cumberland Drive, Quincy, died Thursday, March 17, 2010 at 12:10 am in Sunset Home.
She was born August 18, 1928 in Knox City, Missouri, the daughter of Pharris and Edith Gosney Goodwin. On May 12, 1946 she married George Washington Baltzer in Edina, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1981.


Verna and George were co-owners of Baltzer Construction Company until George’s death in 1981. She was later employed at Century 21 Awerkamp and Hays as a real estate and escrow agent. Verna was active with Friends of the Library and enjoyed volunteer work. She also liked to travel, do yard work and go antiquing.
Verna was an active member at Central Baptist Church for 30 years. She was a regular member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class. Verna also served as past deaconess and member of the Legacy Board. In 2010, she was voted Volunteer of the Year at Central Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly (George) Irelan of Leavenworth, KS; a brother, Charles (Charlotte) Goodwin of Edina, MO; a sister, Dora Mae Corrick of Kirksville, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.


Services were Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 10:00 am in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Lock officiating. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery.


Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
