Wilma Eileen Meinhardt Galbraith

WILMA EILEEN MEINHARDT GALBRAITH

   Wilma Eileen Meinhardt Galbraith was born July 31, 1918 on a farm near Farmington, Lee Co, IA.  She was the first-born child of Mary May Barton and Otto George Meinhardt.  Wilma was a registered nurse and served in World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Nursing Corps.  She married Dr. J.R. Galbraith June 1943, where they resided in Canton, MO for nearly 50 years.  They moved at Mason, OH in 1991, where they resided at the Mason Christian Village.  Her husband preceded her in death in August 1991 and their daughter Jean in May 2002.

   After rearing their ten children, she returned to nursing at the Lewis County Nursing Home until her retirement in 1991.  She was awarded Woman of the Year by the State of Missouri.  In Canton, MO, Wilma was a leader in 4-H, American Legion, Canton Public School, St. Ann’s Alter Society, and St. Joseph Church.  In Mason, OH she was President of the mason Christian Village Association and active in Mason Veteran’s Association and a member of Christ’s Church at Mason.

   Survivors include three daughter:  Jane Freeman of Tulso, OK, Joan Minton of Kell, IL, and Cathy Schwartz of Highlands Ranch, CO; six sons:  Sam of Marrietta, GA, Jan of Moline, IL, Neal of West Chester, OH, John and Rodger of Cincinnati, OH, and Jim of Maineville, OH; 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; one sister Thelma Gaffney of Memphis, MO; and the four Meinhardt brothers: George of Memphis, MO, Wayne of Luray, MO, Dale and Dean of Kahoka, MO.

   Funeral arrangements were by Paul R. Young Funeral Home of Mt. Healthy, OH.  The viewing and service was Monday, June18, at Mason Christian Village at 12-1:30 p.m. and service at 1:30 p.m.  Internment was at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason, OH with military honor guard and 21-gun salute by the American Legion of Mt. Healthy, OH.  Pallbearers were her granddaughters and grandsons.  In place of flowers, the family has suggested a donation in the name of Wilma Galbraith to the Christian Benevolent Association to be used at Mason Christian Village.  Donations may be mailed to Neal Galbraith at 8970 Mimosa Lane, West Chester, OH  45069.
