Attorney General Koster Files Suit Against Clark County

Jefferson City, Mo. – Attorney General Chris Koster said today he has filed a lawsuit against the Clark County Commission for violating the terms of a $57,500 grant they received through the Historic Preservation Revolving Fund to make repairs to the Clark County Courthouse in Kahoka.
Koster said his office is suing to recover the grant money because the county commission has proceeded with plans to demolish the historic structure, which clearly violates the terms of the grant agreement.
“The Historic Preservation Revolving Fund was created for the specific purpose of protecting and preserving historic sites in Missouri,” Koster said. “The fact that the Clark County Commission has received revolving fund grant monies and not made a good faith effort to preserve its historic courthouse or comply with the terms of its grant agreement is not acceptable.”
Koster is asking the court to order Clark County to repay the $57,500, plus interest, to the Historic Preservation Revolving Fund and to require the defendants to pay for costs associated with the lawsuit.
