DR. ART CODER
Art Coder, a family physician, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 16, 2016 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 71 years old.
Art was born in Quincy, Illinois, on September 23, 1945 to Aubrey and Anne (Gorton) Coder, owners of Coder Funeral Home in LaBelle.
On December 31, 1967, Art married Vendia Miller in a Bowling Green, Missouri, wedding ceremony. They enjoyed almost 49 years and were blessed with two sons.
In 1970, he earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. After graduation, Art served in the United States Air Force as a physician at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California. In 1973, Art and his family moved to Broken Arrow when he set up practice with his brother, Dr. James Coder, and was later joined in practice by his sister, niece and son. Art was also the medical director for several nursing homes and hospices in the area.
Art is survived by: Wife, Vendia Coder, Broken Arrow, OK; Children, Brian Coder and wife Kim, Broken Arrow, OK, Wes Coder and wife Beki, Catoosa, OK; Grandchildren, Megan, Spencer, Jackson and Reagan; Brother, Dr. Jim Coder and wife Joani; Sister, Dr. Carole Howard; Many nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Dr. James Howard.
A celebration of the life of Dr. Arthur G. “Art” Coder will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 at South BA Baptist Church (formerly Indian Springs Baptist Church.) He will be laid to rest at Park Grove Cemetery under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.
