Clara Dean (Lane) Cottey, 73 of Lancaster, Missouri died at her home on Tuesday, July 8, 2014.
The daughter of Louis and Virginia (Marler) Lane, Clara was born on May 2, 1941 in Springfield, Missouri. She graduated from Drury College in Springfield with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1963. On November 12, 1966, Clara was united in marriage to James Edward Cottey in Springfield, Missouri at the chapel on the Drury College campus.
Clara is survived by her husband, Jim Cottey of Lancaster, Missouri; two children, Kurt Cottey and wife, Wendi of Allen, Texas and Theresa Anderson and husband, Damann of Apollo Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren, Shane Cottey, Christian (C. J.) Cottey and wife, Haley and Alex Cottey all of Texas, Jacob and Cole Anderson of Apollo Beach, Florida, Tyson Cottey and wife, Carrie of Hartford, Missouri, Elizabeth (Libbi) Dole of Memphis, Missouri and Andrea Tedrow and husband, Randy of Douds, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Tayven Cottey of Hartford, Missouri, Mason Dole of Memphis, Missouri and Joey and Raelynn Tedrow of Douds, Iowa; one brother, Bill Lane of Elkins, Arkansas; one nephew, Jeff Lane and wife, Casi of Memphis, Tennessee and their children, Riley and Cole; a special caregiver for seven years, Jeanette Shively of Coatsville, Missouri and many good friends.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Thomas Campbell Cottey and one nephew, Michael Lane.
Clara was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Lancaster, Missouri. She was also a member of the PEO sisterhood. Clara was employed as a legal secretary for a number of years at the Oswald and Cottey law firm in Kirksville, Missouri. She was then employed as the Clerk of the Associate Court in Schuyler County, Missouri from which she retired.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Pastor Leanna van Zandt assisted by Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Twila Anderson and trio, Barbara Berry, Becky Buckallew and Debbie Snedigar.
Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund. Burial will be at a later date as the body has been cremated.
