Betty Jean Simmons, age 79, of LaBelle, MO, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, in the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, MO. She was born in Grinnell, IA, the daughter of Carl and Edith (Hanson) Breeden. Betty Jean Simmons, age 79, of LaBelle, MO, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, in the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, MO. She was born in Grinnell, IA, the daughter of Carl and Edith (Hanson) Breeden.
On February 10, 1955, in Shelbina, MO, she was united in marriage to Arthur Glenn Simmons and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2010. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter Mandy Lynn Simmons, a sister Lorene Petrie and a brother Harold Breeden.
Surviving are six sons, Arthur Glenn Simmons, Jr. and wife Roena of Newark, MO, Jon Neil Simmons and wife Betty of Lewistown, MO, Douglas Kent Simmons and wife Marilyn of Knox City, MO, Daniel Kevin Simmons and wife Brenda of Canton, MO, David Kelly (Bill) Simmons of Newark, MO, and Carl Wesley (Toby) Simmons and wife Nicole of Lewistown, MO, sixteen grandchildren, Artie Simmons, Carrie Strong, Cody Simmons, Adam Simmons, Candi Harder, Justin Simmons, Tyler Simmons, Stevie Simmons, Stephen Simmons, Maranda Ward, Kane Simmons, Matthew Simmons, Michael Simmons, Sarah Plant, Jessica Plant and Justin Plant. Thirteen great grandchildren, Dillan Strong, Addison Strong, Nico Simmons, Madison Harder, Campbell Harder, Claire Simmons, Wyatt Simmons, Preston Parton, Wesley Ward, Elijah Ward and Mattie Ward, Gage Simmons and Carter Simmons. Also surviving are four sisters, Gladys Olsen of Oregon, Barbara Simmons of Edina, MO, Millie Jennings of Newark, MO, and Geri Walker of Newark, MO, a brother-in-law Bob Simmons of Edina, a sister-in-law Esther Breeden of Willow Springs, MO, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and her beloved Yorkie Zues a gift from her husband.
Betty was raised in Newburg, IA. She lived most of her married life in the Steffenville area. She was a housewife and mother and a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid Nascar fan, loved to sew, had a large doll collection and also loved the farm where she lived for fifty-four years.
Private services for the family will be held at a later date in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery.
