Caroline McElfresh Hendrick, age 97, died September 21, 2013, at Family Residential Care in San Diego, California.
She was born November 1, 1915, in Edina, Missouri, the daughter of Frederick and Lorle Linville McElfresh. She graduated from high school in Topeka, Kansas, where she lived for several years with her aunt and uncle. Caroline worked briefly in Kansas City where she met and married Gil Gallingsworth. They moved to California where they divorced. Caroline worked for many years for San Diego County where she met her husband, Bill. Caroline and William T. Hendrick were married on July 16, 1953, and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Bill was an architect who helped design hotels in San Diego and also in Maui, Hawaii, where they lived for several years. They enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, dancing, visiting with friends, and generally enjoying life for 47 years.
Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, two brothers, Joseph McElfresh of California, and John F. McElfresh and wife Helen McElfresh of Edina and Kirksville, Missouri.
Surviving are two nieces, Nancy (McElfresh) Copenhaver (husband, Paul) of Moberly, Missouri, and Lynne (McElfresh) Gierer of Union, Missouri, and one great niece, Chelsea Reed of Pacific, Missouri.
Interment in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Point Loma in San Diego will be at a later date.
