A Memorial Day Service was held on Monday morning, May 27, 2013, at the Knox County Community Center to honor those who have paid the ultimate price while fighting for our country. It was a joint observance sponsored by all Knox County American Legion Posts and the Knox County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4822. The special speaker was U.S. Army Retired Lieutenant Colonel Keith Gudehus.
During the service Ken Berry presented a Vietnam Era Veterans Memorial from Robert Ward, Ronnie Peterson, Virgil Doss and Leon Moots to Vietnam Era Veterans. Les and Kim Cardwell made the memorial. It will eventually be placed along the north wall on the second floor of the Knox County Courthouse near the WWII Memorial. Vietnam Era Veterans wishing to have their name added to the memorial should contact Leon Moots at (660)341-9050 or Ronnie Peterson at (660)341-1973.
