Joint vocal and instrumental performance at Culver-Stockton College
CANTON, Mo.— Culver-Stockton College’s Concert Choir and the Wind Ensemble will combine forces in Feb. 23, at 3 p.m., in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium of the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center at Culver-Stockton College. The Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Elliot Jones, and the Wind Ensemble, directed by Trent Hollinger, are Culver-Stockton College’s premiere choral and instrumental ensembles.
The wind ensemble portion of the concert will open with the virtuosic Overture to “Candide” by Leonard Bernstein followed by a beautiful setting of Tschesnokoff’s “Salvation is Created.” A repertoire staple, Persichetti’s “Divertimento for Band,” will be followed by the comical and idiomatic setting of Charles Ives’s “Country Band March.” Lovers of both choral and band music will enjoy this concert of wide variety. The groups join together to perform Johannes Brahms’s “Begräbnisgesang” (Funeral Hymn), which Brahms wrote as outdoor music for choir and wind band when he was in his twenties.
This concert is free and open to the public.
