New Sheriff Hiring Deputies

By Echo Menges

Incoming Knox County Sheriff, Allen Gudehus, is making good on his campaign promise to hire new KCSO deputies. During the Knox County Candidate Forum in October Gudehus announced his intentions to start accepting applications for deputy positions before the end of the year and last week he advertised here in the Sentinel doing just that.

During the forum Gudehus stated current deputies would have to reapply for their positions and he wanted to see what kind of response the opportunity would bring to the county noting the importance of utilizing the local, professional pool of law enforcement professionals.

According to the Knox County Policies and Procedures Protocol county employees must reside within the county, though a few county employees do not.

According to Gudehus, applicants living outside of Knox County will be accepted with the contingency that they be residents by the first of the year if hired.

Applicants are asked to apply at the KCSO in the basement of the Knox County Courthouse and can call 660-397-2186 for more information.

Applications will be accepted until noon this Friday, November 23, 2012.

According to the Sheriff Elect he has not decided how many full time deputy positions will be filled. He is considering filling one full time and one part time position, or keep with the two full time deputy positions, which has been the recent standard.
