Roy Gilbert Jackson, Jr., age 84, of Edina, MO, died Thursday, January 26, 2012, in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
He was born January 3, 1928, in Kirksville, MO, the son of Roy and Vinessa Viola Fiscus Jackson.
He was united in marriage to Alta Janava Crabtree, December 8, 1966, at Kirksville, MO.
Surviving are his wife Jan Jackson of Edina, MO, four children, Nick Gilbert Jackson and wife Clovetta of Ballwin, MO, Brenda Nowlain and husband Rick of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, Gwen Hummell and husband Chuck of Nauvoo, IL, Gail Morgret and husband Dean of Edina, MO, one step-son Clark Goodwin of MN, two sisters, Dorothy Lonberger and husband Frank of Kirksville, MO, Judy Berry and husband Bill of Kansas City, MO, eight grandchildren Bethany Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Tamera Smith and husband Howard, Holly Couch, Heather Dickey and husband Brian, Dylan Morgret and Ricky Nowlain, Jamie Beam and husband Brook, four great grandchildren, three brothers-in-law, Frank and Margaret Crabtree of Edina, MO, Ben and Helen Crabtree of Columbia, MO, and George Crabtree of Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, one son James Thomas Jackson, one grandson Michael Christopher Parton, and one sister Virginia White.
Roy received his education in Kirksville graduating from High School in 1947, and graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1954. Roy was an ordained Baptist Minister and had Ministered in Adair County, Rutledge, MO, Hedge City, MO, and in Illinois. Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edina, MO. Roy taught schools in Brookfield, MO, Wyaconda, MO, Burlington, IA, and at the Iowa State Prison in Ft. Madison, IA. Roy owned and operated a Plumbing business and ran a trash truck in Edina for several years. Roy enjoyed coin collecting, flowers, fishing, woodworking and visiting with family and friends.
Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. Reverend John Bode officiated the services. Casket bearers were his grandchildren.
