Clark County Relay For Life Plans 2012 Event

The Clark County Relay For Life held it’s official Kick-off for the 2012 Relay, on Tuesday, November 15 at the Clark County Nutrition Center. Clark County Relay Chairman Paula Fox welcomed those in attendance and the group discussed plans for the 2012 Relay For Life.
The date for next summer’s Relay will be June 23 and it is tentatively set to be held in the City Park, although other locations are presently being examined.
Brenda Carlin, Community Manager Development out of Hannibal also recognized two Relay Teams for their efforts in the 2011 Relay. The Clark County Nursing Home was recognized as a 5-Star Relay Team. They achieved this honor by meeting certain goals including having a survivor on their team as well as raising more money than the previous year and having an advocate on their team. The McDaniel’s Team also received recognition however theirs came from the Division Office and is a special honor for teams raising over $10,000. The McDaniels Team raised in excess of $15,000 for the 2011 Relay For Life. Carlin also showed the teams the T-Shirts that will be featured at the 2012 Relay.
Goals were also set for the 2012 Relay for Life. Those goals are to have eight Relay Teams. There are presently six teams and includes, McDaniel’s, Clark County Nursing Home, St. Paul United Church of Christ, Hunting For a Cure, C& R Market, and Peaksville Christian Church. There are also several Ghost Teams as well that contribute to the Relay and raise money for the event, but do not actually have a physical team present at the night of Relay. $31,000 was set as a goal for the amount of money raised. Last year there were 515 Luminaries that were in memory or in honor of individuals and the goal for the 2012 Relay is to have 550.
There were various ideas tossed about for entertainment during the evening of Relay and the one that drew the most conversation was an adult baby contest. The group will continue to work on the 2012 Relay.

The next Relay For Life meeting will be held January 24 at Exchange Bank in Kahoka beginning at 6:00 p.m. These meeting usually last no more than an hour, so please attend if you are even the slightest interested. After that the meeting will be held at the same location and time on Feb. 28, March 27, April 24, and May 22. Team registration deadline is March 27th. There is a $10.00 registration fee per each team member.
