Hazel Virginia Whitmire, age 90, of Edina, MO, died Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, MO.
She was born December 9, 1920, in Knox County, MO, the daughter of John William and Emma Dora Walter Gosney.
Hazel was united in marriage to Clifford Delbert Whitmire, of October 11, 1937, at Memphis, MO and he preceded her in death on October 22, 1986.
Hazel was also preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters and one great grandchild.
Surviving are one daughter Harriet Blake and husband Leon of Edina, MO, four grandchildren, Clifford Blake of Edina, MO, Nicholas Wayne Blake and wife Vicky of Wentsville, MO, Martin Eric Blake and wife Andrea of Edina, MO, and Shari Cline and husband Martin of St. Joseph, MO, and nine great grandchildren.
Hazel received her education in Knox City and Edina Schools. She and her husband were engaged in farming southwest of Edina, MO and in 1964 moved to Edina. Hazel was employed as a cook at Edina Elementary School and Knox County High School. She was also employed as a cook at the Knox County Nutrition Site. In 1999 she retired to raise two great grandchildren. Hazel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edina, MO.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend David Howald officiated the services. Burial was in the Knox City Cemetery. Casket bearers were Martin Blake, Martin Cline, Karen Stone, Charles Goodwin, Phil Gragg and Bill Gosney.
