NEAL L. SONGER



Neal L. Songer, age 70 of Sidney, IA died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at his home following an extended illness. Neal was born September 12, 1941 in Edina, MO to Dallas Oliver Songer and Gertrude Marie (Lewis) Songer. On August 23, 1963, he was married to Doris Jean Hopkins in Knox City, MO. Neal retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was a Deputy Sheriff with Fremont County, IA for many years.


Neal was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Cleo Ratliff. He is survived by his wife, Doris Songer of Sidney, IA; 2 daughters, Carrie Lynn Broniec and husband Matt of Columbia, MO and Tammy Isenhart of Des Moines, IA; 2 sons, Tony Songer and wife Melody of Sidney and Ricky Songer and wife Terrie of Columbus, MS; 9 grandchildren, Joshua, Zakarie, Tony, Jr, Faith, Shane, Montana, Haleigh, Jacob and Rachael; sister, Barbara Ratliff of Edina, MO; brother, Davie Songer and wife Betty Edina, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.


Neal enjoyed fishing, attending bluegrass festivals, having coffee at Penn Drug and finding every great deal on Ebay. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching Husker football and Fox News. Neal loved spending time with his grandchildren and always had a faithful dog at his side.


Funeral services were 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Crawford- Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA with Pastor Craig Eberly of the Sidney Victory Life Church officiating.


Memorials will go to the Sidney Rescue Squad and interment was in the Sidney, Iowa Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Offutt Air Force Base Color Guard. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.
