JAMES W. WOOD

James William “Bill” Wood age 87 of Bethel, MO, died Thursday, September 1, 2011, in Columbia, MO.


He was born March 24, 1924, in Marion County, MO, the son of Jesse and Myrtle Brower Wood. On November 15, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mary Adelene Staggs and she preceded him in death on October 26, 2002. Bill was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother Roy Wood, and two sisters, Pauline Wood and Dorothy Latimer.


Surviving are two sons, Donald Leroy Wood of Ashland, MO, and Roger Dean Wood and wife Jolene (Hamilton) of Schererville, IN, one daughter Dolores Jean Spratt of Columbia, MO, one brother Richard Dale Wood and wife Rosemary of Brashear, MO, eight grandchildren, Shannon, Coby, Jeff, Staci, Melissa, Heather, Jessica and Ashley, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.


Mr. Wood was engaged in farming for many years in the Bethel area and was also an Insurance Agent for many years. Bill enjoyed wood working, crafts, hunting, fishing, farming and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Marion County, MO.


Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011, at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO. Pastor Charles Sharpe officiated the services. Burial was in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
