Johnnie L. Adkins, Sr.86 of Montrose died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Donnellson Health Center.
He was born August 21, 1924 in Kirksville, MO to Jacob S. and Ruth Brittle Adkins. On August 9, 1947 he married Gladys Little in LaBelle, MO. Johnnie worked at DuPont, retiring in 1981 after 34 years of service. He served in the US Army during WWII. Johnnie enjoyed his family, collecting antique gas engines and being outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Tonya, two brothers, Archie and Roy “Sammy” Adkins.
Survivors include four sons, David (Mary) Adkins of Donnellson, Randall (Sue) McCarty of Montrose, Johnnie Lee (Cindy) Adkins Jr. of Donnellson, Stephen (Carol) McCarty of Keystone Heights, FL; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one sister, Willadean Shumaker of Novinger, MO; and local nieces, Joyce Hicks, Helen Karhoff and Joan Hamlin.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 12, 2011 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Mark Binder officiating. Burial was in Montrose Cemetery.
