Mr. Elmer P. Munzlinger, age 92, of Williamstown, MO died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 9:50 a.m. at the Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, MO.
He was born May 20, 1918 at Webster Groves, Mo, the son of Walter William Martin Munzlinger and Elsie Teresa Count Munzlinger. He completed 9 years of schooling in 8 years. In 1938 the family moved to Lewis County. He married Maurita Tompkins July 3, 1941 at Canton, Mo. She died July 7, 1987. He later married Marie Bonderman at Gray Summit, Mo. in January 1988 and she died November 1989.
Mr. Munzlinger was retired after being a lifelong farmer. He was a Sunday School Superintendent for 30 years, Deacon, and Elder of Bunker Hill Christian Church prior to becoming a member of the Williamstown Christian Church; was on the Zion Hill Cemetery Board, a lifelong member of NRA, was a fifty-year member of the Williamstown Masonic Lodge, was a 4-H Club leader, was active in Grange, Balanced Farming and Farm Bureau. Mr. Munzlinger was an award winning fiddle player.
He is survived by two sons, Senator Brian Lee Munzlinger and his wife Michele of Williamstown, Mo, and Kent Edwin Munzlinger of Williamstown; one daughter Mrs. Jane Ann Houghton and her husband Jerry of Grapevine, TX; one sister Laverne Munzlinger Karl of Glencoe, Mo; ten grandchildren Jeff (Lisa) Houghton, Katy, TX; Rep. Jay (Nancy) Houghton, Martinsburg, Mo; John (Lynn) Houghton, Lamar, Mo; Clint Munzlinger, Higginsville, Mo; Matt (Rachel) Munzlinger, Hannibal, Mo; Mark (Denise) Munzlinger, Columbia, Mo; Darin Munzlinger, Williamstown, Mo; Mrs. Juli Houghton Davis and husband Victor, Lakeland, FL; Megan Munzlinger, Columbia, Mo; Lea Munzlinger, Williamstown, Mo; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five step-daughters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Maurita, and wife Marie; brothers Marshall, Victor and Fillmore; and sister Marie Nelson.
Funeral services were Monday, February 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Mo. with Pastor Sandy Browning and Pastor Joe Jorgensen officiating. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery at Canton. Visitation was Sunday, February 13, 2011, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton with Masonic Services at 8:00 p.m.
Music was provided by Dorothy Gillespie, organist; Larry Gillespie, guitarist and David Parrish, vocalist.
Pallbearers were Jeff Houghton, Rep. Jay Houghton, John Houghton, Clint Munzlinger, Matt Munzlinger, Mark Munzlinger, Darin Munzlinger.
Memorials may be made to the Zion Hill Cemetery or Country Aire Retirement Estates at Lewistown, Mo.
