Possible DrowningAgricultural Investigation

Possible DrowningAgricultural Investigation

On the
evening of November 3, 2010, during an investigation involving the theft of
anhydrous ammonia and tampering with motor vehicle (farm tractor), the Clark
County Sheriff’s Office and the North Missouri Drug Task Force conducted an
operation to apprehend the returning suspects, which we believed would return to
pick up a container, containing anhydrous ammonia.

At
approximately 1135 pm, the 2 suspects returned on 2 separate all terrain
vehicles (ATV’s), but resisted arrest by fleeing, after obtaining the ammonia
anhydrous container. The suspects led officers across the levees northwest of
Alexandria, Missouri, where during the pursuit, the 2 suspects divided just
southwest of the Smokers Outlet, also of Alexandria and officers followed one of
the suspects, where pursuit was called off, when the suspect got off his ATV,
under the US Hwy 61 bridge, on the Missouri side and fled on
foot.

From there,
the officers notified the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the LaGrange K-9
officer to respond, but before their arrival, the suspect was seen attempting to
swim across the Des Moines River. The
suspect was last seen approximately midway across the river.

Missouri
State Water Patrol, Missouri Conservation Agents, Keokuk Police Department, Lee
County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa’s Lee County Drug Task Force and the Keokuk Fire
Department also assisted.

Both ATV’s
and 2 containers, containing Anhydrous Ammonia were recovered during the
investigation. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has 2 possible names for the
suspects, but are withholding the information at this time.

After 2 days
of extensive searching, the suspects have not been located. The search is
ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Clark County
Sheriff’s Office at (660) 727-2915, night or day.
