Clark County PWSD #1 To Receive Over $2 Million in Loans and Grants
U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill announced last week that the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program will provide two Missouri communities with a total of $2,699,000 in federal funding through the Water and Waste Disposal (WWD) Loan and Grant program.
According to the USDA, WWD grants and loans provide funding for community water, sewer, storm sewer and solid waste systems. The following communities will receive funding from the Rural Development Program:
· Crawford County PWSD #1- $240,000 loan and $211,000 grant to improve the distribution system and connect to an adjoining community for water supply.
· Clark County PWSD #1- $1,568,000 loan and $680,000 grant to make improvements to the water distribution systems and water storage facilities to provide drinkable water for community residents.
McCaskill believes that federal grants and loans are a positive alternative to earmarks, which in the past have frequently had too little accountability. Competitive merit and need based federal grants and low-interest government loans bring federal assistance to Missouri in an honest and fiscally responsible manner.
