Loretta Ruth Walter, age 91, of LaBelle, Missouri, died Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. She was born June 20, 1919, at Adams County, Illinois, the daughter of John Truman and Nannie Matilda Harrington Balfour.
Loretta was united in marriage to Leo Ellis Walter on March 10, 1946, at Kirksville, Missouri and he preceded her in death on November 7, 1983.
Loretta was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law Lisa Diane Walter, brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Ruth Balfour, Joe Marion Balfour, Herschel and Merlene Balfour, Lawrence and Elaine Balfour, sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Robert Adams, Florence and Jack McPherson, and numerous other in-laws.
Surviving are three children, Nancy Ellen Gaus and husband Phil, William Eugene Walter, and Dianna Jo Wilson and husband Sam all of LaBelle, Missouri, eight grandchildren, Melissa Lambrecht, Angela Meyer, Kim Bartz, Scott Wilson, Jessica Madden Stephanie Keim, Rob Walter and Tiffanie Mays, three step grandchildren, John, Chris and Tawney Gaus, seventeen great grandchildren, fourteen step great grandchildren, one sister, Emma Francis Smith of Memphis, Missouri, sister and brothers-in-law, Mildred Hamlin of Edina, Missouri, Doris and Roy Miller of Knox City, Missouri, Russell and Beulah Turpin of Edina, Missouri, Bonnie Mauck of LaBelle, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
Loretta received her LPN license from Hannibal LaGrange College. Loretta served as a foster grandparent at Lewis County Schools. She was an LPN for over thirty-five years for several nursing homes including Prairie View Nursing Home, Knox County Nursing Home, and LaBelle Nursing Home. She was a member of the LaBelle Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri. Reverend Tim Smith will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Knox City Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Scott Wilson, Rob Walter, Kenny Lambrecht, Shawn Bartz, Matt Meyer and Doug Keim. Honorary bearers will be Daniel Howe, Dylan Howe, Dalton Howe, Logan Frink, Sammy Wilson, Riley Keim, Anthony Walter, Remington May and Colton Walter.
