Lou Ella Wilson Swartz of St. Louis, Missouri died Sunday, March 7th, 2010.
She was born December 2, 1906, the daughter of Thomas E. and Stella Wilson.
Lou Ella Wilson was united in marriage to Weldon R. Swartz on August, 9, 1935 in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Mrs. Swartz attended three rural grade schools, the first was Schrader, later she attended a one room school in the Sandhills of Nebraska south of Ainsworth, where her parents homesteaded land. Then she graduated from the 8th grade at Salem School. She was a graduate of La Belle High School. She attended Central Methodist College for two years and graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a B.S. degree in Education in 1930.
She taught in Wyaconda, MO, Lewistown, MO and Carlyle, IL before her marriage. She was a 5th grade teacher in the Lewis Co. – C1 school district for 22 years. The first 2 years she taught the upper grades at Steffenville and the 20 later years at La Belle in 5th grade.
Mrs. Swartz was an active member of the La Belle Presbyterian Church and later in the Methodist-Presbyterian Church when they worshiped together. She was active in the Methodist-Presbyterian Guild and taught a middle grade Sunday school class for many years. After 2 church musicians moved away from La Belle, she played the piano for the church until she moved to St. Louis. She was a South Sharpsburg columnist for the La Belle Star from 1973 to 2006.
Surviving are a daughter, Alice A. McDaniel and her husband, Gerald L. McDaniel and son Richard E. Swartz and wife Emily Swartz of Washington, D.C. Grandchildren, Robert P. McDaniel, William M. McDaniel and wife Brenda of Wildwood, Missouri, Leanne M. McDaniel Eaker and husband Kelly of Florissant, Missouri, Sean R. Swartz and wife Livia of Washington, D.C., Jessica E. Swartz Amezcua and husband Luis of Portland, Oregon, Joseph W. Swartz and wife Heather of Hamilton, Virginia, C. Brendan Swartz and wife Kady of Washington, D.C. She had 17 great grandchildren Samantha Eaker, Olivia Eaker, Erika McDaniel, Grant McDaniel, Jenna McDaniel, Jordyn McDaniel, Sean Swartz II, William Swartz, Amanda Amezcua, Danny Amezcua, Raquel Amezcua, Rockwell Swartz, Hayden Swartz, Eva Swartz, Caleb Swartz, Patrick Swartz and Ashlyn Heidenreich. Nieces, Lynn Richmond of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Johanna Morrigan of Little Falls, Minnesota.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and her sister Ruby Richmond of Little Falls, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 18th at Buchholz Funeral Home located at 1645 Redman Road, Spanish Lake, MO 63138 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 19th at John Knox Presbyterian Church located at 13200 New Halls Ferry Road, Florissant, MO 63033 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held on Saturday, March 20th at the La Belle, MO Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
