Phlllis Marie Rhoades Klataske, age 64, of Lewistown, MO died September 16, 2009 in her home, surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Phyllis was born in Kirksville, MO to Rial and Marie (Smith) Rhoades on April 29, 1945. Her mother survives. The Rhoades were long time residents of the LaBelle, MO area. Phyllis graduated with the Lewis County R-1 School class of 1962.
On March 5, 1962 she was united in marriage to Delmar Klataske, whom survives. Four children were born of this marriage: Teresia (Terri) Bugh and Kenny Jr. of Lewistown, Barbara McKenzie and Michael of St. Peters, Angela Clark and Edwin of Fowler, Illinois, and Michael Klataske of St. Louis. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Tara Schroder and Brandon of LaGrange MO, Tasia Lay of Quincy IL, and Kelsey Bugh of Lewistown MO, Amanda Runyon and Joe of O’Fallon MO, Shawn, Hannah, and Brittany McKenzie of St. Peters MO, Autumn and Abigial Clark of Fowler IL, and four Great Grandchildren: Kaitlynn and Carissa Schroder, Cameron Davis, and Evan Runyon. A very close friend of the family, Jay Clawson, also survives. A sister, Mary Fox and Lee of Kirksville MO, and several nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Bobby Rhoades.
Phyllis was an active member in the Queen of Peace church of Ewing, MO. She belonged to the Tuesday Rosary Group. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with her family, walking her beloved dogs, and being outdoors tending to her yard, flowers, birdhouses, birdbaths, and especially her hummingbirds. She was also a supporter of the Humane Society and a member of the
St. Labre Indian School Sacred Circle.
Phyllis was a mother, housewife, homemaker, and assistant to her husband with the family business (Klataske Auto Sales and Service), and with the family farm located northwest of Lewistown.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 10 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ewing, Missouri with Father Richard Frank officiating. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Baring, Missouri at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Lewis County Relay For Life or to the Quincy Humane Society.
Music was provided by Mrs. Nina McKenzie organist and Mrs. Tammy Toliver and Mrs. Christel Roberts-vocalists. Pallbearers were Edwin Clark, Mike McKenzie, Donnie Bradshaw, David Lay, Shawn McKenzie, Jay Clawson. Honoarary Pallbearers were Kenny Bugh, Jr., Gene Dudgeon, Brandon Schroder, Junior McKenzie, Joe Runyon, Evan Runyon, Cameron Davis, Karl Bishoff, Marty Catron, Virginia Peacock.
