LADDONIA-Service for Rosena (Sally) Chafant Montague, 80, of rural Wellsville, was held at 10 am Friday, May 8, 2009 at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Laddonia with Reverend Wade Spence and Reverend Joe Jones officiating. Burial was at Laddonia Cemetery.
Mrs. Montague passed away at 12:42 am May 5, 2009 at Gamma Road Lodge, Wellsville.
She was born June 12th, 1928 in LaPlata, the daughter of Emmett and Maudie Bragg Gash.
She was married to James Barlow July 5th, 1947 and her preceded her in death. She married Willard Chalfant August 5th, 1950 and he preceded her in death April 15th, 1978. She then married Bill Montague April 7th, 1990 and he preceded her in death November 25th, 1993.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Becky Chalfant and Alvin and Linda Chalfant, all of Wellsville; two daughters and their spouses, Sharen and Wade Spence of Mexico and Joyce and John Fort of Martinsburg; one daughter-in-law, Judith Barlow of Mexico, three step-sons, Cary Grant Montague of Mexico, Dennis Montague of Monticello, ILL and Mitchell Montague of Auxvasse, one brother and his wife, Bob and Norma Gash of St. Charles; 11 grandchildren, Christy Bartlow Lynn, Mike Bartlow, Jeff, Randy, and Brian Blackburn, Dan, David, Derek, and Christopher Chalfant, Lisa Fort Shields, and Melissa Fort. 15 great-grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Bartlow; two stepsons, Larry Montague and William Russell Montague; one step granddaughter; Angie Montague; four brothers, Kenneth, Delbert, Dean, and George Gash; and her infant twin sister, Rosemary Gash.
Mrs. Montague was a lifetime area resident and homemaker. She was an active member of the West Cuivre Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Novelty High School. She loved being outdoors, working in her yard and picking hickory nuts. She also enjoyed needlework and going to music Shows.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Cuivre Baptist Church or the Laddonia Cemetery Assocation.
Pallbearers were Mike Bartlow, jeff Blackburn, Randy Blackburn, Brian Blackburn, Dan Chalfant, David Chalfant, Derek Chalfant, and Christopher Chalfant. Honorary pall bears were Christy Barrlow Lynn, Lisa Fort Shields, Melissa Fort, Marcus Montague, Larry Montague, and Richard Montague.
