Rita Helen (McMillen) Bybee of Harrisburg, Illinois, died February 10, 2009 at the age of 76.
She was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen McMillen. On April 18, 1955, at the St. Joseph Church in Edina, MO, she married Charles R. Bybee, who survives.
Rita was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Edina, Missouri, and later a graduate of St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Quincy, IL.
A central theme in Rita’s life was her devotion to children, including her six children—Teri, John, Diane, Charles, Mark, and Roger, 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She volunteered her summers as a nurse at Camp Ondessonk.
Rita belonged to St. Mary’s Church in Harrisburg, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the College Club of Saline County, the Retired Teachers of Saline, IL, the Senior Art Club of Southern Illinois College, and the Crisis Nursery.
She is survived by her husband Bob, sister Joan Pettit of O’Fallon, brothers Jim, Jerry, and Dan McMillen of Mesa, Arizona.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, and infant brother “Jackie”, son Roger, daughter-in-law Naomi Bybee, and brother-in-law Scott Pettit.
Rita’s body was donated to Science at her request.
A Mass was celebrated in her honor at St. Mary’s Church in Harrisburg.
