Robert Lee Harvey, age 75, of Leon, Iowa, formerly of Knox County, Missouri, died Sunday, November 16, 2008, in the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was born March 7, 1933, at Bee Ridge, Missouri, the son of Harry and Mary Kathryn Whiteaker Harvey.
Robert attended schools in Knox City, Missouri and Decatur, Iowa. He served in the United States Army and served our country honorably during the Korean conflict. After Korea, he remained active for more than twenty years with the SEEBEE Reserves, traveling to numerous destinations and worked with reservists on the Panama Canal. After military duty he owned and operated a “NEW HOME” construction company, building homes in Iowa and California, of which the homes were superb design, a natural talent and well done.
He later moved to his “TRUE LOVE”, farming in Missouri and Iowa until the day he died.
He is survived by his close friend, Anna LaDu at home in Leon, Iowa, one son Michael Harvey and wife Tammie of Whittinsville, Massachusetts, one daughter, Lynn Wederbrand and husband Arlin of Chandler, Arizona, five grandchildren, Cheyanne Harvey, Daniel Smith, Michelle Smith, Mitchell Wederbrand and Matt Wederbrand, five sisters, Eleanor Curfman of Stubbenville, Ohio, Virginia Pulse of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Sandra MacMasters of Northglenn, Colorado, Rose Mary Harvey of Deerfield Beach, Florida, Norma Jean Fagen and husband Glenn of Ruskin, Florida, one aunt Hazel Whiteaker of Knox City, Missouri, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ray, Dale and David Harvey, two sisters, Lora and Glenda, and one daughter Lorie Sue Harvey.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 21, 2008, at the Bee Ridge United Methodist Church southeast of Edina, Missouri. Reverend Sam Smith officiatef the services. Burial with full military honors was in the Bee Ridge Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Edina, Missouri.
