Martha C. “Marti” Shanley, age 63, died on October 20, 2008, at her home near Hoyt, Kansas. Funeral services were on October 24, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Topeka, KS.
Marti was born March 22, 1945 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Phillip and Mary (Puhl) Habig. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Hayden High School of Topeka, KS in 1963. Marti married Alvin E. Shanley on September 21, 1968 and he preceded her in death on November 14, 1997. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son, Ron Shanley, a daughter, Kim Clements and husband, Brad, all of Hoyt, KS, a step-son, Kevin Shanley of Edina, MO and a step-daughter, Karen Shanley of Memphis, MO; two granddaughters, nine step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Frank, Vince and Chuck, all of Topeka, and Joe Habig of Oklahoma and five sisters, Millie Plevins of Texas, and Cecillia Umscheid, Lori Bayless, Kathy Elersic and Dolly Truhe, all of Topeka; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Shanley of Edina; and two brother/sister-in-laws, Tommy and Rosella Small of Edina and Bob and Marlene Crowe of Oskaloosa, KS.
Marti enjoyed bowling, softball, volleyball, garage sales, and her coffee club of which she had been a member for over 20 years. Her greatest pleasure was being with her family and grandchildren and working in her yard.
