Emery Wayne Mumford, age 86, of Rutledge, MO died Friday, October 24, 2008 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.
He was born April 12, 1922 in Knox County, MO, the son of Lee O. and Velma Tonnies Mumford.
On July 27, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lola Trent and she survives.
Surviving is his wife, Lola Mumford of Rutledge, MO; one daughter, Jada Steelman and husband, Paul, of Jefferson City, MO; one granddaughter, Hattie Mumford and one great-grandchild, Kaden Ray Steelman. He is also survived by two special nieces, Merlene Trent of Kirksville, MO and Rolene Jones of Colony, MO and 6,957,854 spiritual brothers and sisters in 236 lands all over the globe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eileen Trent.
Mr. Mumford was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness since 1940 and remained a very active member until the month he died. He began farming in the early 1950’s with Robert Trent, Mumford and Trent Farms, and farmed his entire life. He loved to play croquet, homemade ice cream, and Massey-Ferguson tractors. He was a shrewd trader of automobiles and enjoyed conversing with all the local dealerships. He enjoyed spending time with friends and especially his family.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO with Brother Steve Mills officiating. Burial was in the Colony Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Tom Slates, George Eldredge, Bill Gorrell, George Glascock, Ray Ostlund and Bill Wurtzberger.
Visitation was Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO from 4-8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
