Shelly L. Allen, age 43, formerly of Lewistown, Missouri was a resident of Wheaton, Illinois for 25 years. Shelly died on Friday, September 26, 2008 at her home from complications of ALS.
She was born September 3, 1965 in Kirksville, Missouri to Richard and Carolyn Menke Allen.
Shelly was a graduate of Highland High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Wheaton College. She was employed by the college for 16 years, most recently as an IT specialist. She was a founding member of Church of the Savior in West Chicago, Illinois, where she had been a vestry member and served as treasurer. She enjoyed hiking, golf, softball, travel and the beautiful outdoors. She dearly loved her cats, Tim, Linus and Lucy.
She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Allen of Lewistown, Missouri, two aunts: Vivian Olson and husband, Gene, and Beverly Opie and husband, Archie, and numerous cousins.
Preceding her in death were her father, Richard, in 1980, and her grandparents, Ralph and Stella Menke and Irl and Mildred Allen.
Graveside services were held at noon on Saturday, October 4, 2008 in the LaBelle Cemetery with Brother Jim Daniels officiating. Burial was in the LaBelle Cemetery.
Visitation was on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. in the Coder Funeral Chapel with family greeting friends from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
