Opal Irene Buschling, 93, of New Sharon, IA, formerly of Canton, MO, passed away at home September 23, 2008.
She was born November 6, 1914, the daughter of Roy and Gertrude Chavis Hobson, of Kahoka, MO. She married John A. Buschling April 14, 1940. He preceded her in death July 5, 1999.
Opal was truly a one-of-a-kind, amazing woman who loved her family and was always there to help anyone in need. Though she raised only 1 biological child, she was a surrogate mother and grandmother to many more.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Bankson, and her husband, Ken, of New Sharon, IA;granddaughter Shauna Garner and her husband, Rick, of Anthem, AZ;grandson Shanon Brackelsberg and his girlfriend, Lisa Tesdale, of Delta, IA;”surrogate grandchildren” Heather Brand of Chillicothe, IL, and Josh Buschling of Canton, MO and their families;step-granddaughter Kira Bankson, of Iowa City, IA;step-grandson Ryan Bankson of Iowa City, IA;5 great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Skylar, & Riley Doak of Anthem, AZ and Hunter and Hailey Brackelsberg of Delta, IA;brother Leland Hobson and his wife, Lavola, of Kahoka, MO;brother-in-law, Elmer Buschling, of Canton, MO;many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, her parents, and 2 brothers, Hilbert and Lee Hobson.
Private graveside services were held at Zion Cemetery for family with prayer being said by her niece, Cindy Betz, on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.
