Old Settlers’ Activities Kick Off This Weekend
Old Settlers’ Day is September 27, and Clark County will celebrate the annual event this year with the theme: A Luau-Hawaii 2008, in honor of this summer’s Marching Indian band trip.
The week’s events get started Sunday afternoon, with the Queen and Princess Contest, sponsored by Kahoka Medical Clinic. Rehearsal is at 2PM, with the contest to select the 2008 Old Settlers’ Queen and Princess starting at 4:00 PM in the Edna Seyb Auditorium at the CCR-1 Middle School.
Tuesday night, September 23, will be the Little Mr. and Miss Clark County Contest, sponsored by Exchange bank of Northeast Missouri. The contest will be held in the Middle School gym, and rehearsal will be Monday night, Sept. 22,. at 6:30PM.
A Community Prayer Service, sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance, will be held at 7:0PM on Thursday, September 25 at the Presbyterian Church.
On Friday at 5:00PM, the Clark County Senior Center will host an Ice Cream Fundraiser, featuring homemade ice cream provided by the Lion’s Club, along with cake and sandwiches.
Saturday morning, September 27, will be a flurry of activity, kicking off early with a Pancake Breakfast at the Fire Station. Breakfast will be served from 6:30 AM until 11:00AM. Proceeds will be used to benefit the Clark Count Volunteer Fire Dept.
The annual Baby Contest, sponsored by The Main Attraction, will be held in the Seyb Auditorium starting at 9:00 AM.
A Classic Car Show will begin setting up at 9:00AM at West Commercial and North Morgan Streets.
The Pet Parade, sponsored by Farm Bureau, will be held at the northeast corner of the square.
Vigen Memorial Home will host the Table Place Setting Contest, sponsored by the Clark County Assoc. for Family and Community Education. Displays can be viewed from 10:00AM until 4:00PM.
Kahoka State Bank is again sponsoring at Baking Contest, which will be judged at 10:00AM.
Peoples Bank of Wyaconda will sponsor the Decorated Bike Contest at 10:30AM, on North Morgan Street next to The Media.
Wiss & Wiss are again hosting the Pedal Tractor Pull at 11:00AM, on the south side of the square.
The Decorated Pumpkin Contest, sponsored by Richard and Betty Courtney, will take place at 11:30AM at the northwest corner of the square.
Kids Express, Moon Walk and Putt Putt Golf will be on the west side of the square from 11:00AM until 4:00PM, and the Women of the Moose will have a Cake Walk next to the old Pamida store, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.
Joann Ragan’s Clark County History Building will be open all day except during the parade, and an Antique Tractor Show will be held on the north side of the square.
Clark County’s oldest citizens are encouraged to register at the bandstand for the Chair and Cane, a tradition dating back to the first Old Settlers’ Day.
The Parade will begin at 2:00PM, followed by the return of Bed Races immediately following the parade, on the west side of the square. The Bed Races are sponsored by the Clark County Nutrition Center
A 50/50 drawing will be held at 4:00PM in the park.
