William “Leroy” Lillard, 91, of Kahoka, MO, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO.
He was born November 22, 1916, in Stronghurst, IL, the son of Elston and Lizzie Hodges Lillard. On May 23, 1942, he was united in marriage to Ethel Heinze in Canton, Missouri. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Linda Sears and her husband Larry of Kahoka, MO, Barbara Bergman and her husband John of Kahoka, MO, Elizabeth Montgomery of Arbela, MO, sister, Fern Boehmer of St. Louis, MO, brother in law, Howard Heinze and wife Elizabeth of Kahoka, MO, and sister in law Mary Garrels and husband Joseph of Kahoka, MO, grandchildren, Sherri Biddenstadt and her husband Mike of Keokuk, IA, Vickie Shaffer and her husband Kevin of Kahoka, MO, Dave Sears and his wife Ashley of Forest City , NC, Shawn Bergman of Quincy, IL, Tyler Bergman and his wife Leigh Ann of Hannibal, MO, Christopher Montgomery and his wife Paula of Memphis, MO, Kent Montgomery and his wife Kiley of Lake Ozark, MO, nine great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, four step great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lorene Waggener and her husband Leo Waggener and a son-in-law, Bill Montgomery.
Leroy was the last of the original “jack of all trades.” As a young man he flew a plane for pleasure. When electricity first came to Clark County he wired many of the homes in this area. He had a saw mill and built his home with the lumber from this mill. He also helped his two daughters build their homes in which they now live. He was a farmer and started his farm raising Herford cattle and than raised Charolais cattle. In later years he became a fish farmer. He designed and built a fish trap and sold fish at the farmers market on Thursdays at the Court House Square in Kahoka. He was always there when anyone needed him and will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m., Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Monday until time of the service.
