The third production for the 2007-2008 Great River Players season is the Tony winning comedy “Lend Me A Tenor”, by Ken Ludwig. “Lend Me A Tenor” takes place in 1934 where the Cleveland Opera Company awaits the arrival of guest singer Tito Morelli. Hailed as the greatest operatic tenor of his time, he is to perform the title role in their tenth anniversary season gala performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Otello”.
The drama unfolds in the hotel suite as the ill tempered general manager of the opera company, Mr. Saunders, and his assistant, Max await the arrival of Tito and his wife Maria. Max has been dating Saunder’s daughter Maggie for three years, but she is still wishing to have a fling and hear bells with that someone special. The cast is rounded out with Diana as the opera soprano who is making the rounds with the whole opera company, Julia, the Chairman of the opera guild and the scene stealing Bellhop.
Mistaken identity, slamming doors, and hurried entrances and exits will keep you on the edge of your seat as the evening unfolds.
The production of “Lend Me A Tenor”, is directed by Chris Wright and assistant directed by Tina Stott. The cast includes: Ed Bazow, Evan Bunnell, Cindy Heitman, Christal Lewiston, Bobbi Lutzen, Sue Scott, David Wendt and Zane Zirkel.
