DOROTHY L. HOWARD
Dorothy Leona Howard, 88 of Keokuk, Iowa and formerly of Kirksville, Missouri died Thursday (March 27, 2008) in Keokuk, Iowa.
The daughter of Joseph C. and Ruth L. (Shelton) Anders, she was born July 31, 1919 north of Bible Grove, Missouri. In 1938 she married Vernon Russell Matlick and to this union a son, Charles Russell Matlick was born. On November 19, 1951 in Kirksville she married Daniel Franklin Howard.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter-in-law, Lynda Matlick of Keokuk, IA; four grandchildren, Debra Varner and husband Jeff of Fayette, IA, David Matlick and wife Becky of Fredrick, MD, Doug Matlick and wife Vickie of Keokuk, IA and Daniel Matlick of Ames, IA; twelve great grandchildren, Jeremy Varner of Des Moines, IA, Joshua Varner of New York City, Melissa Hunt of Fairmont, MN, Miranda Varner of Ames, IA, Michael Matlick of Ames, IA, Michelle Matlick of Frostburg, MD, Zachary Matlick of Denver, CO, Brett Matlick, Colin Matlick, Cole, Chelsey and Lexie of Keokuk, IA; two great great grandchildren, Ashton and Noah Hunt; two sisters, Marguerite Richardson of Kirksville and Evelyn Bechtel of Burlington, IA and a nephew, Paul Anders who spent his high school days with his aunt and uncle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Daniel, son Charles Matlick, two brothers, Leland and Harold Dean Anders and a sister, Wilma Faye Day.
Dorothy graduated from Bible Grove high school in 1937. She and Daniel farmed until 1976. She was a member of West Pleasant Ridge Christian Church near Greensburg, MO, the Ladies aid, Jolly Extension Club and Greensburg O.E.S. #258 and was a 4-H leader.
A funeral service was held at 12:00 noon on Monday (March 31, 2008) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial was in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
