JOHN R. SLY
John R. Sly, age 62, of LaBelle, Missouri, died Sunday, February 3, 2008 in his home.
Born September 4, 1945 in Canton, Missouri, he was the son of Charles Henry and Lucile Lay Sly.
A graduate of Quincy, Illinois High School he served his country with the U.S. Army from 1965 until 1967.
He married Pamela R. Evans on March 3, 1967 in Newark, MO, and she survives.
John was a member of the Quincy Machinist Lodge Union Local # 822 and was employed for 36 years at Knapheide Manufacturing Company.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting and cooking out.
He is survived by his wife of LaBelle, one daughter, Christine Marie Garrett and husband Doug of Hurdland, Missouri, two sons, John Henry Sly and wife Laura of Hampton, Virginia, Matthew Glenn Sly and wife Samantha of Ewing, MO, and twelve grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters: Imogene Gibson of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas; Betty Duncan of Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas; Shirley Rhodes of Carthage, Illinois; two brothers: Charles R. Sly of Ewing, Missouri; and Bill Sly and wife Edith of Tucson, Arizona; his mother-in-law, Rue Myers of Lewistown, Missouri; eight nieces and fifteen nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dora Dean Snider.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the Coder Funeral Chapel, with Reverend Lance Bonnell officiating. Burial was in the Monticello Little Mountain Cemetery, Monticello, Missouri, with military rites graveside by the LaBelle American Legion Post #200.
