Norma L. Edwards
Norma Lavern Edwards, age 77, of Edina, Missouri, died Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at the Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, Missouri.
She was born April 16, 1930, at Novelty, Missouri, the daughter of William McKinley Bowen and Grace Elizabeth Ocker.
On November 6, 1948 at Shelbina, Missouri she was united in marriage to Calvin Ralph Edwards and two this union four children were born. She and her husband were divorced in 1975.
Surviving are four children, Larry G. Edwards and his wife Claudia of Carrolton, Missouri, Donna K. Ferguson of Quincy, Illinois, Linda F. Stultz and husband Don of Shelbina, Missouri, and Sheila R. Catron and her husband Todd of Maywood, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Brian Edwards and wife Michelle, Nicole Edwards, Tracy Pfannenstiel and husband Kip, Jessica Spencer and husband Freddy, William Ferguson and wife Jessica, David Ferguson, Andrew Catron, Garrett Catron, and Shannon Catron; nine great-grandchildren, Jenna Edwards, Parker, Riley, and Mason Pfannenstiel, Emma Spencer, Aubrie and Alexander Ferguson, Logan Baze, Mar`ke Jansen and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lloyd and Stanley Bowen, one granddaughter, Shannon Ferguson and one great granddaughter Kaylee Ferguson.
Norma grew up on the family farm near Novelty, Missouri, where she received her education in rural schools. She graduated from LaPlata High School in the late 1940’s.
Norma was a housewife and homemaker. She and her husband were engaged in farming in the Rutledge area for many years, where she also operated her own dairy business.
Norma was employed as a cook in several restaurants in the area for many years. She was also employed in Home Health Care for many years with Heartland Resources. She worked with children at Knox County schools, the Adventure Club after school and with the elderly at the Knox County Nutrition Site.
Norma loved working with her hands, tending large gardens, sewing, and cooking. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks, and was very talented musically. She played the guitar, piano, fiddle, harmonica, accordion and other instruments.
She and her husband sang in bands with family and friends for years. They had a radio show on KMEM Radio at Memphis, Missouri in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s called “Norma and the Ranchhands”. Music always filled her home, mostly Country and Gospel.
Spoiling the grandkids and great grandkids was her greatest enjoyment. Norma has resided at Country Aire Retirement Estates since February 4, 2007 and was Resident of the Month in October 2007.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. The Reverend David Howald officiated at the services. Burial was in the LaPlata Cemetery at LaPlata, Missouri.
Music was provided by Evelyn Fifer of Steffensville, Missouri.
Casket bearers were Gary Kaser, Richard Hatter, Neil Stice, David Burkhardt, Kevin Catron and Darrel Klocke.
