Hazel Mae Shahan, age 90, of Hurdland, Missouri, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.
She was born February 22, 1917, in Western Adair County, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Lula Matilda Stewart Dobbs.
She was united in marriage to Millard (Doc) Shahan on March 21, 1936, at Greentop, Missouri and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1983.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Donald Shahan in 1986, two grandsons, Rex Shahan and Todd Shahan and two brothers, Earl and Luther Dobbs.
Surviving are three children, Jack Shahan and wife Cheryl of Okeechobee, Florida, Jerry Shahan of Brashear, Missouri, and Margie Aldridge and husband George of Wever, Iowa, one sister, Mayme James of Kirksville, Missouri and one brother Olin Dobbs and wife Annabelle of Florida, nine grandchildren, John Shahan and wife Marsha, Joe Shahan and wife Deanna, Mark Shahan and wife Charlene, Gary Shahan and wife Sue, Linda Ritchie, Andy Shahan and wife Jennifer, Randall Shahan and wife Amie, Vickie Duke and husband Michael and Jason Aldridge and wife Denise, sixteen great grandchildren, Jennifer and Julie Shahan, Jeremy Shahan, Christina Greene, Kortney, Morgan, and Logan Shahan, Tommy and Michael Shahan, Jonathan, Joshua and Sara Jo Ritchie, Storm and Olivia Duke, Aden Shahan, Meia Shahan, Seth and Rachael Shahan and seven great-great grandchildren.
Hazel was raised in Adair County where she received her education. She was a housewife and homemaker. She and her husband lived in Brashear and later moved to a farm southwest of Hurdland. She lived in Hurdland from 1980 to 2006. For the past year she has resided at the Knox County Nursing, home in Edina, Missouri.
Hazel was an active member of the Hurdland Baptist Church many years where she worked in the nursery and was also assistant teacher to the pre school children.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, Missouri.
The Reverend Robert Shobe officiated the services. Burial was in the Hurdland I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Music was provided by Melvin Bissey, soloist. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, John, Joe, Mark, Gary, Andy and Randall Shahan and Jason Aldridge.
