Katie Primmer Miller of Columbia, Missouri, eldest daughter of Tom and Colleen Primmer of rural Brashear, recently completed running the New York City Marathon on November 4.
The 26.2-mile marathon included runners from all over the world, and 38,000 of these runners completed the race.
Area residents who flew to New York City to support and cheer Katie as she ran through the five boroughs of New York City, and as she crossed five bridges, starting  at Staten Island and finishing in the famous Central Park, were her mother and sister, Colleen and Kellie  Primmer of Brashear, her husband, Joel Miller of Columbia, and a close friend, Betsy Rush of Quincy, Illinois.
The day began at 4 AM, from the New York City Library, where Katie rode a bus to Staten Island.  The runners began racing in groups at different times, with the wheel chair and hand-cycle entrants being allowed to start first, followed by an elite group of male and female runners.
It was of interest that the winner in the women’s division had just had  a baby last January, and how amazing it was that she was able to finish in first place in this major marathon.
Katie finished with a time of 5 hours and 33 minutes.  Another interesting tidbit was that Katie finished a mere 3 minutes behind the famous Katie Holmes.
Katie wishes to express how grateful she is for all the support given to her by her Brashear family members and friends.  Many followed her success and progress on the Internet and again, some were there in person to cheer her along the way.
