Noble L. Bishop


   Noble Lee Bishop, age 98, of Edina, Missouri, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.

   Noble was born on March 6, 1909, in Knox County the son of Jessie Lee and Mabel Lee Davis Bishop.

On October 16, 1932, at Canton, Missouri he was united in marriage to Velma Lee Kidwell, and she preceded him in death on September 9, 1998.

   Noble was also preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandchild, one sister, Clara Callaway and two brothers, Wilbur and Holland Bishop.

   Surviving are eight children, Donna Stockham and fiancée Bruce Normile of Baring, Missouri, Mike Bishop and wife Carol Lee of Edina, Missouri, Sue Johnson and husband Dick of Baring, Missouri, Jack Bishop and wife Mary of Edina, Missouri, Dan Bishop and wife Judi of Baring, Missouri, J.W. Bishop of Farmington, Missouri, Janice McGinnis and husband Mike of Edina, Missouri, and Brenda Beckner and husband Mike of Corydon, Iowa, one sister, Norma Jean Hunsaker and husband Bob of Moberly, Missouri, twenty-one grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one sister-in-law, Helen Bishop of Columbia, Missouri, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Noble was raised in Knox County where he received his education in the Bishop Grade School south of Edina and graduated from Edina High School in 1927.

   In his early years Noble was employed at a produce and grocery owned by Steve Lynch and later with Henderson Produce where he visited area farms and picked up eggs and delivered feed.

   In the late 1940’s, Noble became an agent for Standard Oil.  He drove a tank wagon, delivering fuel to area residents and farmers, until his retirement in 1971. 

   Noble was a member of the Baring Country Club, First Christian Church in Edina, a member of the Edina Masonic Lodge # 291, having received his fifty-year pin, a member of the York Rite Masonic Bodies and Moila Shrine Temple in St. Joseph, Missouri.

   In his earlier years, Noble raised Beagle Hounds.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, cards, and spending time with his family and friends.

   Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.  The Reverend Dewayne Wellborn officiated the services.

   Music was provided by Brent Karhoff, soloist and Nancy Reardon, organist.  Burial was in the Linville Cemetery in Edina, Missouri.

   Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007, by Edina Lodge # 291 A.F. & A.M. in the Chapel.

   Casket bearers were his grandsons, Kent Stockham, Michael Bishop, Mark Bishop, Mike Gardner, David Gardner, Kelly Gardner, Ryan Bishop, Jerry Bishop, Chris Bishop, Kevin McGinnis and Adam Beckner.

   Expressions of sympathy in memory of Noble Lee Bishop may be made to the Linville Cemetery.  Memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2, Edina, Missouri, 63537.
