Schuyler County Moves On To Championship Game

Jackie Roberts and Katie Farley drove in two runs each leading Schuyler County to a 16-3 win over Knox County (7-9) in the championship semi-final round of the 2007 Schuyler County Softball Tournament. Kourtney Nelson and Desiree Ray scored three runs each for the potent Lady Rams.
Knox County put the ball in play during the first inning and was rewarded with the game’s first score. Brittany Miller reached on a one out error and later scored when Amanda Woods lofted a sacrifice fly to center field. Schuyler County was charged with three unofficial errors during the KCHS first inning.
The Lady Eagle coaching staff decided to throw a wrinkle at the hard hitting Lady Rams. Hannah Dale started the game on the mound for Knox County.
Katilin Stump led off the bottom of the first with a single and later scored on Jackie Robert’s RBI ground out. The host team put four more runs on the board in their second inning.
Kourtney Nelson doubled leading off the second. A walk and a hit batsman loaded the bases with none out. Katie Farley lofted a sac fly to left field. Ariel Vanlandingham had an RBI single for Schuyler County and later scored after two wild pitches The Lady Rams led 5-1 after two innings of play.
Knox County took advantage of Schuyler County miscues when Myra Parrish led off the third inning with a walk. Parrish circled the bases on three wild pitches and scored, trimming the deficit to 5-2.
Schuyler County put ten runs on the board during a decisive third inning. Two walks and an error loaded the bases again with none out. Kanada Nelson walked forcing in a run Katie Farley and Kaitlyn Stump earned RBI’s before the first out was recorded. Jackie Roberts walked forcing in another run.
Stephanie March, Kourtney Nelson and Desiree Ray reached base and scored their second runs of the inning. Ray had an RBI hit off reliever Brittany Miller. Kanada Nelson slammed an RBI double. March and Kourney Nelson reached as the result of two out errors. Holly Kite threw Kanada Nelson out at the plate for the second out of the inning.
Knox County had runners on first and second base in their fourth inning but could not score. Stephanie March drove Tara Verkuilen home with the 16th Ram run in the fourth.
Amanda Woods tripled Lorrie Peters home with the third KCHS run in the fifth inning. The RBI triple spoiled an Alyssa Greenstreet no hit bid. The Lady Eagles scored three runs on one hit. Amanda Woods had two KCHS runs batted in.
Alyssa Greenstreet fanned five batters in five innings pitched for the win. Greenstreet walked five KCHS batters. Hannah Dale pitched two and two thirds innings, allowing 15 runs, only two of which were earned. Dale allowed five hits, struck out one batter and walked seven. Brittany Miller pitched an inning and a third with two walks and three hits allowed.
Schuyler County (11-1) scored 16 runs on eight hits. Kaitlin Stump went 2-4 at bat with two runs scored and a Lady Ram RBI. “We have great senior leadership,” said Schuyler County coach Steve Stock.
“Alyssa Greenstreet threw the ball well and we hit the ball hard. She only gave up three runs the whole tournament.”
“They are very aggressive hitters and are aggressive on the bases,” said Knox County coach Stephanie Crawford of the Lady Rams. “They were just flat out the better team today. I thought we played better all around today. It was nice to see them get their heads in the game better than in the previous four games.”
