     George W. Black, 77, of Wayland, Missouri died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at his home in Wayland, Missouri.

     He was born August 26, 1929 in Pike County, Missouri, the son of Clifford and Gladys Irene Hooper Black.  He was first married to Ollie “Louise” Wilkerson Brink in 1968.  She preceded him in death in 1976.  On May 2, 1979, he was united in marriage to Betty Bishop Shelton in New London, Missouri.  She survives.

     Other survivors included two daughters, Tina Willcutt and her husband Brian of Keokuk, IA, Georgia Whittaker and her husband Delmar of Hannibal, MO, four step daughters, Marilyn Waddell and her husband Junior of New London, MO, Donna Shoemate and her husband Robert of Saverton, MO, Sally Shephard of Perry, MO and Mary Cobb and her husband Rodney of Perry, IL, seventeen grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

     Besides his first wife he was also preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Leroy, Charles, Frank and Ernest Black, and a step son George Brink.

     George worked in construction in Hannibal for several years then he worked for Gardner Denver in Quincy, Illinois.  He then moved to Kahoka and worked for the City of Kahoka in the water department for eleven years retiring in 1989.  He also managed the Kahoka Motel for fourteen years retiring in 2002.

     He was a member of the Wayland First Baptist Church.  He enjoyed refinishing furniture, hunting and fishing.

     Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Reverend Dan Deatrick officiating.  Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Friday with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

     Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Wayland.
