Freeda Opal Luker, age 95 of LaBelle, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Freeda was born October 7, 1911 in Knox County near Newark, Missouri a daughter of Fred and Bessie (Plunkett) Voorhees.
She was united in marriage to Fred D. Luker on May 12, 1935 and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1981.
Freeda was a member of the First Christian Church of LaBelle for more than 60 years and was active in various activities until health limited her participation. She also enjoyed travel, genealogy, Cardinal baseball and visiting with family and friends.
She attended Kirksville Teachers College and received her Bachelor Degree from Culver-Stockton College. She taught school in Knox and Lewis County schools for 39 years before retiring in 1976. She had many fond memories of her teaching career and seemed to be able to recall pertinent information about each student ever enrolled in one of her classes.
Freeda is survived by two children: Joyce Wilson and husband Bob of Waldport, Oregon and Verlyn Luker and his wife Laura of Quincy, Illinois; six grandchildren, Beverly Wilson, Douglas Wilson, Fred Wilson, Robert Wilson, Jeffery Luker and Heather Luker, one great-grandchild, Ian Wilson Smith, and one sister-in-law, Grace Foster and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, her husband and one sister, Neva Mitchell, preceded her in death.
Graveside services were held Thursday, August 23, 2007 in the LaBelle Cemetery with Reverend Sandy Browning officiating.
